12 steps in action

Nourishment Works offers a 12 Steps in Action Group. The following is additional information to help you decide if this group is a good fit!

Explore healing and growth in a safe and supportive environment with our 12 step psychodrama group. Led by experienced psychodramatist, this program uses the power of acting and role-training to help individuals work through emotional and psychological issues related to addiction and recovery.

Exploring in action, using psychodrama as a therapeutic technique can allow a deeper understanding and the ability to work through their emotions and experiences related to addiction and recovery. In the context of step 1 of the 12 steps, which states "We admitted we were powerless over our addiction, that our lives had become unmanageable," psychodrama can be used to demonstrate the impact of addiction on an individual's life by allowing them to act out their experiences in a safe and controlled environment. This can help the individual to better understand the extent of their addiction, and the ways in which it has affected their relationships, their work, and other areas of their life. Additionally, in this group, we’ll use psychodramatic techniques to explore the feelings of powerlessness and unmanageability that often accompany addiction, which can help the individual to more fully understand the need for help and support in overcoming their addiction.

This group allows folks to come together in the community, seeking connection and support as we move through the steps together. During this monthly group we will meet in person to review a step in action. Join us on the journey to self-discovery and self-improvement.

The 12 Steps

  1. We admitted we were powerless over alcohol—that our lives had become unmanageable.

  2. Came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.

  3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood God.

  4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

  5. Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.

  6. Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.

  7. Humbly asked God to remove our shortcomings.

  8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.

  9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

  10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.

  11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood God, praying only for knowledge of God’s will for us and the power to carry that out.

  12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

Each group session is a mixture of activities to get the group connected and build safety. Each month we will explore a subsequent step in action, one at a time. In a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere, we will have space for connecting activities and as we end each group we will have space for sharing and closure. The group will be lead through activities that will unpack each step in an experiential way.

This group is currently being offered monthly and in person at our office. The out of pocket cost is $60 per group session. Check with us about using insurance.
